US Signal Disaster Recovery

Make no mistake, when disasters occur, US Signal has your back. Yes, fully redundant network routers and physically diverse SONET ring topology prevent most failures. However, you rely on your systems every day to get the job done. So, you need more. You need a service provider that is prepared with a state of the art disaster recovery platform in place to sustain its carrier class network.

Here are a few important ways US Signal keeps you protected.

  • US Signal has invested millions to ensure a fully protected infrastructure capable of automatic switching around failure points.
  • US Signal’s fiber assets are wholly owned and designed to maintain full distribution diversity from the field to separate Fiber Distribution Panels, diverse fiber guides and path separation when terminating to network equipment.
  • US Signal owns more than 6,000 miles of fiber optic cable throughout the Midwest, allowing us easy access and direct connectivity to Tier 1 backbone providers.

When failure or “total loss” occurs, US Signal's maintenance spare stock can replace all parts of a Central Office or Colocation facility.Whether it’s in a parking lot or field, US Signal doesn't have to wait for vendor transmitted equipment or vendor dispatching. Their DR Mobile Environment is a complete Central Office environment ready to roll in the event of a building loss.

And when you need help, US Signal’s Network Operations Center (NOC) is there. US Signal has multiple back-up systems and provides a contact center that is reachable 24/7. You take comfort in knowing that US Signal will provide detailed lists of direct-dial desk and cell phone numbers for every level of NOC Management. The Network Operation Center is available to any customer, anytime the need is there.

How do you know US Signal is prepared?

US Signal tests the ability to respond and recover on a regular basis. US Signal ensures their procedures are correct, their equipment is serviceable and the operations staff is trained to get the US Signal network up and running.  The US Signal team assess the performance of the personnel assigned to the Disaster Recovery Inspection Test and the readiness of the completed network.. More importantly, this is an on going effort to ensure the network has the necessary equipment and continue to update US Signal's restoration skills.

News from the NOC

The Network Operations Center (NOC) supports your network 24 /7, 365 days a year. The Network Operation Center staff is poised to promptly answer your phone calls ready to troubleshoot and provide live interactive test assist to repair any US Signal provided service. This month we take you inside the heart of  the US Signal team to see how we’ve ramped up our support with a couple of recent changes within the walls of US Signal.

Matt VanderZwaag has worked his way up the US Signal “techy” ladder, so to speak! He began his career with the company in October of 2007 as a Data (IP) technician. He received his CCNA certification in January 2009 and moved to lead NOC technician. Matt took over as NOC Manager last October.

Though you can reach the NOC team 24/7, Matt still gets a day off once in a while! He spends his free time outdoors with his wife, Tammi and his daughter, Mya. And if a one-year-old isn’t enough physical activity, Matt also takes part in adult leagues through memberships at local gyms.

Since he joined US Signal in 2008 as a NOC technician, Rob Beaudry has also been promoted. Right now he is the NOC Maintenance Supervisor.

Rob has a hobby to keep him busy in each of Michigan’s seasons. He likes playing golf in the summer and hockey in the winter. He and his four-year-old daughter have a blast year round, though - watching movies, enjoying the outdoors or taking one of their several trips to Disney World!
